It's been a rule of thumb that in order for Diabetics to avoid hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the sufferer must take in more protein. This is a myth. While it is true that protein is converted to glucose by the body, this only occurs with insulin. And insulin as we already know is what is lacking in most Diabetics.
Furthermore, while as much as 50-60% of protein is converted to glucose, this does not make the liver release more glucose as it absorbs more protein. Most of the glucose produced by the liver is stored as glycogen (a glucose-storing molecule) in the liver or muscles.
