New research has linked diabetes to
increase risk of pancreatic cancer. According to the US National Cancer Institute, high levels of insulin with low body response puts a person at a higher cancer risk.
Type 1 diabetics, who have low levels of insulin in their body, are outside the scope of the study. But type 2 diabetics often need to produce more insulin and this may lead to cancer cell growth. The study points to the early stages of type 2 diabetes wherein the pancreas increases insulin production to compensate for the lack of absorption.
But researchers allow that the risk is too low for type 2 diabetics to be alarmed. More research is also needed as the subjects that were monitored in the research were also habitual smokers.
